All too familiar result for Lehigh

Bethlehem, PA – Goalkeeper Sam Bishop recorded ten saves, but the result was an all-too-familiar one for Lehigh as the Mountain Hawks battled Long Island to a scoreless draw. The deadlock was the fourth straight for Lehigh dating back to October 7th (7-1-6), and the fifth in the Mountain Hawks last six contests. Meanwhile, the Blackbirds are now 7-4-3 on the season.
“The word to describe this game is frustration”, Head Coach Dean Koski said. “I think our guys are frustrated because when we score, we let the other team score, and if we pitch a shut out, the we get shut out ourselves.” Koski adds, “It’s going to take a greater commitment on our part for the final third of the game, to be at the right place at the right time.” Despite another tie, Lehigh did manage to tie the school record for consecutive games without a loss, as this gave the Mountain Hawks, ranked sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, nine in a row. The Brown and White also tied another school record posting its ninth shutout of the season.
Sophomore Peter Classi led the Mountain Hawks with six shots on the evening; senior Steve Fisher added four. For the Blackbirds, David Schofield had five shots for the game. Long Island goalkeeper Ryszard Gorski stopped nine Mountain Hawk shots. The game was intense throughout, and it showed, as four players were whistled for fouls and given yellow cards.
Lehigh will return to action on Saturday, when the Mountain Hawks welcome Colgate to the Ulrich Sports Complex for what becomes a critical game inside the Patriot League. The game is set to begin at 7:00 and will be broadcast live on Lehigh’s website.
