Garrett Kull (pronounced 'COOL') enters his first season as assistant men’s soccer coach at Lehigh in 2022.
He joins head coach Dean Koski's staff, along with associate head coach Ryan Hess and volunteer assistant Brendan McIntyre.
Kull comes to Bethlehem from the South Dakota School of Mines (NCAA DII) in Rapid City, S.D. where he served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. In his two seasons with the Hardrockers, the program had one of its best starts in program history including scoring the most goals in the first three games. He oversaw two Second Team All-RMAC selections, one All-RMAC honorable mention and coached the second leading goalkeeper in saves nationally. As a recruiting coordinator, Kull signed diverse classes that featured 11 recruits from nine different states and one international in 2021, with four signed from four states before departing. Kull was also an asset in the department, assisting the sports information office. In the community, he worked at the club level for the Black Hills Rapids as a goalkeeper coach and head coach.
Prior to his time in Rapid City, Kull served as the assistant men’s soccer coach and a reserves coach for Schreiner University (NCAA DIII) in Kerrville, Texas for two seasons. He made his impact coaching goalkeepers with two keepers finishing third in saves per game and in the top five for total saves in conference, as well as two All-Conference honorable mentions. The staff oversaw a roster overhaul bringing in over 20 recruits in his time with the program. He also helped grow the team’s popularity in the area as the Mountaineers finished third in the conference for attendance both years.
While in Texas, he also led the Our Lady of the Hills boys’ varsity soccer team which saw a new chapter of the program that featured the largest roster in program history. The Hawks saw immediate success as the team made its first state playoffs in two years and hosted its first playoff game in four years. The Hawks were able to follow up the next year with another playoff berth before Kull stepped down. In total he coached three All-State honorable mentions, ten total All-District honors, and one collegiate signee. He also volunteered his time with the local soccer club AYSO Hill Country United.
Kull began his coaching career while still competing collegiately as the boys’ varsity assistant coach at Trinity Presbyterian School in Montgomery, Ala. Over three seasons, the Wildcats won an area championship, never missed a state playoff, saw 10 all-metro awardees and a player named to the state all-star game. He developed the role of the boys’ goalkeeper director and also served as a volunteer in both the weight room and football teams.
Collegiately, Kull represented the Huntingdon College Hawks for four seasons as both a goalkeeper and field player spending part of his junior year as a student-manager coaching goalkeepers. He graduated with a degree in Sports Management. He also coached at the club level for the Capital City Streaks and volunteered with F.C. Torjager.
“It’s an absolute honor to be able to represent Lehigh,” said Kull. “I am looking forward to working with Coach Koski and Coach Hess in such a great academic and athletic environment. I hope I can continue the tradition of excellence in serving both our current and incoming student-athletes, alumni, fans, and department.”
Prior to his collegiate career, Kull played for Prattville High School in Prattville, Ala. where he earned All-Metro honors as a senior. He currently holds a U.S. Soccer D-License, numerous diplomas in special categories from the United Soccer Coaches, and is currently pursuing a master’s from Liberty University in Sports Management.
