Why Lehigh?: “Lehigh had the academic reputation that I was looking for in a school, in addition to having a great wrestling program. I felt that Lehigh was the right place for me to excel in both my studies and wrestling. The coaching staff was also a major reason for why I decided to attend Lehigh.”
In 2008:09: Limited to just six bouts due to injury… dropped only dual appearance to Bucknell’s Shane Riccio… went 3-2 to place fifth at Clarion Open at 174.
In 2007-08: Emerged as starter at 184 in February and went on to place fourth at the EIWA tournament and qualified for his first NCAA tournament… went 3-2 at EIWA tournament… won his season dual debut over Justin Danz of Hofstra at Sheridan Dual… came one victory short of placing at 174 at the Kaufman-Brand Open… missed most of first half of the season with an injury… named an NWCA Academic All-American… repeated as team’s Scholar-Athlete Award winner.
In 2006-07: Entered lineup as mid-season replacement at 165… posted 5-5 record in early season open tournaments… made dual debut versus UC Davis… defeated Bran Crudden of Brown 5-2 to earn first non-forfeit dual win… recipient of team Scholar-Athlete Award.
In 2005-06: Deferred eligibility… went 8-5 competing at TCNJ, Wilkes and Edinboro Opens… won five of seven matches at Wilkes Open… earned a 4.0 grade point average in each of his first two semesters at Lehigh.
In Secondary School:
Personal: Son of Rudi and Julie Schubert… brother Joe (19) and sister Christine (14)… owns a 3.97 cumulative grade point average.
