Ide Scores Two In Win Over LIU

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Led by a career high two goals from Aubrey Ide, the Lehigh field hockey team defeated LIU 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Ulrich Field.

Lehigh struck first at 8:13 in the second quarter, when Ide deflected a shot from Kiki Mes off a penalty corner, giving Lehigh a 1-0 lead.

The Mountain Hawks weren't done in the second quarter, as Ide found the back of the cage again, extending Lehigh's lead to 2-0 into halftime.

Across the first half, Lehigh dominated offensively, holding a 13-2 advantage in shots and 7-1 advantage in penalty corners.

The third quarter was scoreless as Lehigh hung onto its 2-0 lead. Opportunities were more-evenly matched this quarter, as the Mountain Hawks only led 3-2 in shots and 1-0 in penalty corners.

Lotte Haagmans put the Sharks on the board at 9:55 in the fourth quarter, making it a one-goal game.

With 8:14 on the clock, Ella Stephenson carried the ball into the left side of the circle and fired off a shot into the back of the cage to extend Lehigh's lead to 3-1.

At 4:57, Lehigh earned a penalty stroke after a hard foul from behind in the circle. Stephenson stepped up for the opportunity, but hit the post.

LIU earned a penalty corner in the final minute. Haagmans and Guusje Vermeulen executed a give-and-go, as Haagmans put in her second goal of the game with 39 seconds remaining. Lehigh ran the clock down off the restart, securing the 3-2 home victory.

Kate Burgess recorded four saves, while LIU's Emma Capparelli made nine.
