POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Lehigh men's basketball played its first of four games away from Stabler Arena on Tuesday evening from McCann Arena against the Marist University Red Foxes. The Mountain Hawks dropped a 78-55 decision to begin the road swing.
Tuesday night's game was the fourth meeting between the two teams in as many seasons. Marist (4-2) had never beaten Lehigh (2-5) previously, as the Mountain Hawks lead the all-time series 9-1.
Sophomore Hank Alvey got things going for the Mountain Hawks, scoring the team's first two buckets. Marist's first two field goals came from outside the arc, helping them take an early 10-6 lead at the 15:38 mark. Lehigh then used a 6-0 run to regain the lead with 11:42 remaining in the first half. Following the run, Marist's defense locked in, holding Lehigh to 10% from the field over the next six minutes to take a 14-point lead. The Red Foxes entered the locker room holding a 38-21 advantage.
Marist continued to put forth a strong defensive effort in the second half, limiting Lehigh to two field goals through the first five minutes of action. The Red Foxes continued to build onto their advantage, leading by as many as 28 in the second half. Lehigh would trim the deficit to 18 with under five minutes remaining, but it was all little too late.
