
Mountain Hawks Fall to Yale On Friday Night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Yale (1-0) defeated the Mountain Hawks 6-1 on Friday night at Ulrich Field.

The Bulldogs' Poppy Beales led the offensive effort with two goals.

Yale kicked off scoring on a penalty corner, taking a 1-0 lead with 5:54 left in the first quarter.

The second quarter featured Beales' first goal of the evening as Yale led 2-0 heading into halftime.

Early into the second half, Beales tallied her second goal at 11:29 as the Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-0. Yale capitalized on another penalty corner with 6:54 remaining in the third, increasing its lead to 4-0.

Lehigh gained momentum after the Yale goal, earning a penalty corner of its own with 6:14 remaining in the third quarter. Sophomore Ella Stephenson fed the ball across the top of the circle to senior Guusje Hogendoorn who connected on a sweep to put Lehigh on the board trailing 4-1.

The Bulldogs added one more goal in the third before sealing the 6-1 victory in the fourth period.

Senior goalkeeper Jenny Canoni played 40:46, earning five saves. Sophomore Kate Burgess subbed into the game for the final 19:14 and picked up three saves in her season debut. Yale's Alexa Pitts had three saves.

Lehigh (1-2) heads to Rider on Sunday for a noon matchup.
