
Mes’ Two Goals Lift Lehigh Over Rider 2-1

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Junior Kiki Mes scored both Lehigh goals as the Mountain Hawks defeated Rider 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Mes led the charge with four shots, all of which were on goal, and one defensive save. Junior Zoe Day also had her first defensive save of the 2024 campaign.
The first quarter was a scoreless battle between the teams as the Broncs outshot Lehigh 5-1.
In the first minute of the second quarter, Rider struck first taking a 1-0 lead on a penalty corner.
Lehigh responded with Mes' first goal of the season at 10:55 in the second quarter, knotting the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Lehigh had momentum in the third quarter, out-cornering the Broncs 4-0. Shots were even between the teams at 1-1.
With 12:58 left in the game, fifth-year Julia Gatelein carried the ball in the midfield, distributing it to Mes who gave Lehigh the 2-1 lead. In the final quarter, Lehigh out-cornered Rider 3-1 and outshot the Broncs 5-4 as the Mountain Hawks held on to secure the 2-1 victory.
Senior goalkeeper Jenny Canoni recorded five saves while her Rider counterpart Jade Regnart had six.
Lehigh (2-2) returns home at 5 p.m. on Friday to host La Salle at Ulrich Field.
