Mountain Hawks Fall To Monmouth 5-1

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's soccer team fell to Monmouth 5-1 at the Ulrich Sports Complex on Thursday night.

Monmouth took an early 1-0 lead, netting the first goal of the contest in the 13th minute.

The Hawks maintained momentum and less than two minutes later, Ava Allen extended Monmouth's lead to 2-0.

In the 31st minute, Liza Suydam connected on a ball from Ashley Lavrich to increase the Monmouth lead to 3-0.

Lehigh got on the board in the 35th minute as senior Hope Flanegin sent a long ball to Ava Schaller who capitalized on the opportunity for her first goal of the season, as Monmouth led 3-1 heading into intermission.

Monmouth added its first goal in the second half, grabbing the 4-1 lead in the 61st minute. The Hawks solidified the win with a goal in the 83rd minute to secure the 5-1 victory.

The Hawks outshot Lehigh 19-6 and also out-cornered the Mountain Hawks 9-2.

Junior goalkeeper Maggie Ousoujoglou made seven saves while Monmouth's Cassandra Coster made four saves.

Lehigh (1-3-1) is back in action on Sunday against Cornell at 1 p.m. Sunday's game will be Dog Day.
