EASTON, Pa. – Lehigh men's cross country continued their 2024 campaign on Saturday morning in Easton for the annual 8K rivalry dual meet race against the Lafayette Leopards. The Mountain Hawks picked up a 19-42 win to earn their 25th consecutive victory over their rivals.
"Last weekend was a bit of a wake-up call for us and I thought we responded well today," said head coach Todd Etters. "We have been dominant in the rivalry for a quarter of a century and that doesn't just happen by accident. Our men really stepped up to the challenge today."
The first three runners to cross the finish line were all Mountain Hawks, and Lehigh took up seven spots in the top ten. The Mountain Hawks were led by senior Kevin Harvey, who finished in first place with a time of 24:51.2, marking the first individual race win of his career. Sophomore Ryan Baker (2nd, 24:59.1) and senior Aidan Lynch (3rd, 25:05.0) rounded out the top three for Lehigh.
"Kevin won his first individual cross country race today and he looked determined to make it happen throughout," said Etters. "I don't think a Lafayette runner was in the lead for a single step and I am happy with our effort today."
The four other top ten finishers for Lehigh included junior Alex Heidemann (6th, 25:30.9), sophomore Noah Zahn (7th, 25:32.1), junior Dan Malatesta (8th, 25:33.5) and sophomore Thomas Smigo (9th, 25:34.6).
"Winning is fun and it can be contagious," said Etters. "We need to ride this wave and keep our confidence high. The season is going to present bigger challenges going forward and we need to stay positive and focused on what is ahead of us."
The Mountain Hawks will next race at the 50th annual Paul Short Run on October 5 hosted on Lehigh's Goodman Campus.
