Mountain Hawks Battle Bethpage Black, Finish Sixth at The Doc Gimmler

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Tuesday's final round of The Doc Gimmler saw golfers from 12 teams attempting to tame the famed Black Course at Bethpage State Park. The Lehigh men's golf team shot a 308 Tuesday to finish in a tie for sixth place out of 12 teams at 871 (283-280-308).

Junior Aiden LeBlanc was the low Mountain Hawk over the two-day, 54-hole tournament, tying for fourth place at 212 (69-68-75). Tuesday's 75 was the low round for Lehigh on Bethpage Black. LeBlanc made two birdies in his final round.

Senior Jahan Bains shot 78 Tuesday and tied for 11th place at 216 (67-71-78). Bains carded two birdies Tuesday with his opening round 67 Monday serving as the low round of the tournament for Lehigh.

Lehigh's second-lowest round Tuesday came from junior Paulius Malcius, who shot 76 to move up to a tie for 31st place at 221 (77-68-76). Malcius made a team-best four birdies in his final round.

Junior Jake Roth tied for 40th place at 223 (71-73-79), while classmate Will Caronchi shot 230 (76-74-80) and tied for 55th place. Caronchi made one birdie on Tuesday.

LIU used a final round 301 to move up and capture the team title with a final total of 859. The Sharks defeated host St. John's by five strokes.

Peicheng Chen of St. John's was the individual medalist at five under par 206 (65-69-72). Chen defeated two players by five strokes.

It will be a short turnaround for the Mountain Hawks, who will be back on the course this weekend at the Temple Invitational, Saturday-Sunday at the 1912 Club.
