Caronchi, Mountain Hawks Lead Lafayette's Invitational After Opening 18 Holes

EASTON, Pa. – Northampton Country Club continues to be good to Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks are the defending champions at Lafayette's ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational and a strong performance Sunday as Lehigh leading the 2024 edition. Sophomore Will Caronchi shot five under par 67 as Lehigh as a team shot even par 288 in Sunday's opening round. The Mountain Hawks lead Mount St. Mary's and Rider by seven strokes entering Monday's final round.
 
Caronchi's 67 was the lowest round of his Lehigh career. He carded six birdies and made a hole-in-one on the 226-yard fourth hole, the first ace for a Lehigh player since Johnny Hsu in the final round of the 2017 Patriot League Championship at Bucknell. Caronchi shot 31 on the back nine with five birdies in a six-hole span between No. 10 and No. 15. He leads three players by two strokes after 18 out of 36 holes.
 
Behind Caronchi, graduate student David Hurly and senior Edmund Broderick carded rounds of 73 and are tied for 14th place. Broderick made three birdies in his first round, while Hurly carded two.
 
Junior Jahan Bains made three birdies in an opening round 75 and is tied for 21st place. Sophomore Aiden LeBlanc is Lehigh's fifth scoring player and is tied for 44th place after shooting 78 with a birdie on 18.
 
Three Mountain Hawks are competing as individuals, led by first-year Matthew Quinn, who shot one under par 71 with six birdies and sits in fifth place. Graduate student Sam Barton is part of the tie for 21st place after making three birdies in his round of 75. Sophomore Jake Roth shot 78 with two birdies and is part of the tie for 44th.
 
The ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational concludes Monday with the final 18 holes from Northampton Country Club.
