Lehigh Completes First Round of Spring Season Sunday at Torrey Pines

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Lehigh men's golf team opened its spring season Sunday with a round of 305 on the opening day of the three-day UC San Diego Invitational at Torrey Pines. Following rain and wind on Saturday, Sunday's opening round was contested in windy conditions.

The Mountain Hawks are in a three-way tie for ninth place in a 17-team field.

Sophomore Aiden LeBlanc led the way for the Mountain Hawks, shooting three over par 75, including a pair of birdies. He is tied for 23rd place.

Graduate student David Hurly and junior Jahan Bains both shot 76 and are tied for 37th place. Hurly carded three birdies in his opening round, while Bains made two.

Senior Edmund Broderick made one birdie in his opening round 78 and is tied for 56th place, while sophomore Will Caronchi is tied for 77th after an 80.

Competing as an individual, first-year Matthew Quinn matched Hurly with three birdies and show 81 to sit in a tie for 90th place.

There is a three-way tie at the top in the team standings after day one, with Yale, North Dakota State and Oklahoma Christian all shooting five over par 293. Three players: Idaho's Matt McGann, Yale's Robert You and NDSU's Ian Simonich, are tied for the individual lead at two under par 70.
