Lehigh and Lafayette Square Off in 106th Meeting

2/9/2024 10:18:00 AM | Women's Basketball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 106th meeting of the Rivalry returns to Easton on Saturday, as Lehigh women's basketball takes on Lafayette at 2 p.m. at Kirby Sports Arena.

The Mountain Hawks are currently in a three-way tie for fourth place in the league, as they have a 5-5 record in the Patriot League. Lehigh's overall record is 13-8. The Leopards, who have an overall record of 8-13, are last in the league with a 3-7 record.

The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 64-62 win against Boston University on Feb. 3 after the Terriers missed a last-second layup to tie the game. It was a total team win as four Mountain Hawks finished in double figures, led by Ella Stemmer with 13 points. Meghan O'Brien and Remi Sisselman both dished out 12 points, and Lily Fandre added 11 of her own.

Lehigh's game against the Terriers marked the fourth time this season that the Mountain Hawks have had four players score in double figures. Lehigh's two-point victory also marked the third time this season that Lehigh has played in a game that came down to one-possession. The Mountain Hawks have won two out of those three games.

Lafayette lost seven straight league games before winning its last two games against American and Army. The Black Knights were on a five-game win streak before the Leopards knocked them off in a 68-54 victory.

Abby Antognoli leads the way for Lafayette, recording a team-high of 13.3 points. Makayla Andrews is also averaging double figures as she brings home 12.4 points per game.

Stemmer's 13.8 points per game are a team-high and the fifth most in the Patriot League. The junior guard from Ann Arbor has finished in double figures 14 times this season. Her 2.5 made three-pointers per game are the best in the league. She is only 10 three-pointers away from passing Hailey Pascoe '19 for the 10th-most three-pointers in program history (133).

Fandre has the longest streak on the team of notching consecutive double figures, as she's had four straight games hitting that mark. The sophomore forward is second on the team in points per game (12.0) and second on the team in rebounds per game (5.6). She also has three double-doubles on the season.

Lehigh has a 57-48 advantage in the all-time series. The last time both teams met, Lehigh  defeated the Leopards 79-48 at Stabler Arena. The last time the Mountain Hawks played at Lafayette, the Leopards won 69-66.

Saturday's game will be aired on ESPN+ with live radio coverage on Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.

Following Saturday's game, Lehigh returns home on Wednesday to host Bucknell at 6 p.m.
