
Mountain Hawks Wrap Up Home Slate With 5-2 Win

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In a goal-scoring frenzy, the Lehigh Mountain Hawks defeated Holy Cross 5-2, closing out the 2024 home slate with a victory on Saturday.

Fifth year Julia Gatelein and junior Kiki Mes led Lehigh with one goal and one assist apiece.

Holy Cross struck first, as Megan Fourie put away her first goal of the afternoon giving Holy Cross a 1-0 lead with under seven minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Lehigh controlled momentum for the tail-end of the second quarter. With just over three minutes remaining, Mes connected with rebound off a save on a penalty corner, tying the game at 1-1. With 1:53 remaining in the half, sophomore Aubrey Ide scored to give Lehigh a 2-1 lead. The Mountain Hawks weren't done as junior Maddie Kandra sent in a ball that Julia Gatelein put into the back of the cage, carrying a 3-1 lead into intermission.

At 6:56 on the clock in the third, Fourie tallied her second goal as Holy Cross trailed 3-2. With less than two minutes left in the period, senior Guusje Hogendoorn put in a straight sweep on a corner, sending Lehigh into the fourth period up 4-2.

Lehigh solidified its victory with Nola Ryder's first career goal on a penalty corner as Lehigh secured the 5-2 win.

Senior Jenny Canoni made two saves while Holy Cross's Mia McCloskey recorded eight.
