
Lehigh Rolls Past Colgate 45-17 For Fourth Straight Win

Lehigh (7-3, 4-1 Patriot League) enters the regular season finale tied at the top of the Patriot League standings, with Holy Cross, which defeated Bucknell 40-38 Saturday. A Mountain Hawks victory over Lafayette would give Lehigh its 13th Patriot League championship and the league's automatic bid to the FCS playoffs.

The Mountain Hawks rushed for 271 yards, including 213 in the second half. First-year quarterback Hayden Johnson made his first career start and completed 16-of-21 for 204 yards and three touchdowns. Two of the three touchdown passes went to junior Geoffrey Jamiel, who hauled in seven receptions for 125 yards.

Lehigh received the opening kickoff and needed just four plays to move 60 yards to open the scoring. A one-yard rush by sophomore Luke Yoder staked the Mountain Hawks to an early 7-0 lead.

Colgate (2-9, 1-4 PL) answered with a 60-yard drive of its own and got on the board with Luke Vogeler's 25-yard field goal with 5:40 left in the opening quarter.

On its second possession of the game, Lehigh put together a 15-play drive that milked 8:07 off the clock. A 37-yard field goal by junior Nick Garrido into the wind started a run of 24 unanswered Lehigh points as the Mountain Hawks took a 10-3 lead.

A seven-yard scoring pass from Johnson to Jamiel gave Lehigh a 17-3 lead at intermission.

On its first drive of the second half, Lehigh moved 68 yards in just five plays with Johnson hitting sophomore Mason Humphrey for a 19-yard touchdown to extend the Lehigh lead. A 33-yard touchdown run by first-year Jaden Green put the Mountain Hawks up 31-3 after three quarters.

Colgate broke the Lehigh scoring run with a 33-yard connection from Jake Stearney to Treyvhon Saunders but the Mountain Hawks answered with an eight play, 78-yard drive. Johnson hit Jamiel on a bubble screen and Jamiel raced 51 yards for his second touchdown of the day.

Late in the fourth quarter, first-year Aaron Crossley added the exclamation point with an 84-yard touchdown run for his first career score.

Green finished with 103 yards on 12 carries to pace the ground game, while Yoder ran for 83 yards on 16 attempts. Humphrey finished with 44 yards on four receptions.

Junior Jackson Dowd was the top tackler with nine stops. Lehigh had three sacks, with junior Matt Spatny recording two and junior TJ Burke the third.

Stearney completed 33-of-42 for 263 yards with two touchdowns. Lehigh limited Colgate to just 321 yards of offense, including just 54 on the ground.

EXTRA POINTS… Lehigh has now on three of the last five meetings in the series with Colgate… The Mountain Hawks are now 16-6 in their last 22 games the week prior to the Lafayette game and 4-4 when that opponent is Colgate… Spatny's two sacks give him 10 for the season… Saturday's game featured zero turnovers… in leading 17-3 at halftime, Lehigh has now outscored its opponents 125-27 in the first halves of games at Goodman Stadium this season… Crossley's 84-yard touchdown was the longest rush for Lehigh since Gaige Garcia went 82 yards at Cornell in 2022… Jamiel enjoyed his second two-touchdown game this season and the third of his career.
