Garcia's Double-Double Leads Mountain Hawks Past Holy Cross 3-1

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh volleyball returned to Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall on Sunday afternoon for a matchup with the visiting Holy Cross Crusaders. After conceding the first set, the Mountain Hawks won three straight to defeat the Crusaders 3-1.

"Today was a great rebound for the weekend," said head coach Alexa Keckler. "Certainly was proud of our team and their resiliency."

With both teams coming off a loss, Lehigh (11-7, 4-4 PL) and Holy Cross (2-15, 0-8 PL) each were seeking a victory to close out the weekend. The Crusaders, who hadn't won a set in their last four matches, shocked the Mountain Hawks with a 25-21 first set victory. Lehigh opened the frame on a 10-2 run, but Holy Cross responded with several big runs of their own to snap their set loss streak.

Holy Cross used their momentum from the first to open the second on a 5-1 run. However, Lehigh wasn't deterred, crawling back to take the lead at 11-10. The two teams continued to go back and forth until the score sat at 22-21 in favor of Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks hit an impressive .324 in the frame and utilized multiple liberos to help gain an edge. Kills from sophomore Jaidyn Garcia and junior Natalie Luscomb as well as an ace from sophomore Olivia Lasee put the finishing touches on Lehigh's set two victory.

Despite dropping the previous set, Holy Cross once again started hot, leading 12-9 through the first 21 points. The Mountain Hawks responded well, blitzing the Crusaders with a 10-1 that put the home team ahead by six. Holy Cross would cut the lead down to four, but Lehigh scored four unanswered to win 25-17 and take a 2-1 lead.

With momentum fully on their side after two consecutive set victories, Lehigh dominated from the jump in set four. The Mountain Hawks rode a .300 hitting percentage and several huge runs to a 25-11 fourth set victory to seal their fourth Patriot League win of the season.

"Rebounding and using the depth of our bench was crucial in the win," said Keckler. "Olivia Lasee really stepped up today both from attacking and the service line. We have so many talented players and it was great to see them stepping up into a place of confidence and execution."

Garcia led the Mountain Hawks with 12 kills, her second double-digit output of the season. Garcia also notced 11 digs to record her first-career double-double. Both sophomore Alysia Fingall and first-year Sophia Bond notched 14 digs to lead Lehigh while first-year Kamryn Utley's 19 assists were a team-high.

The Mountain Hawks will complete the season series against Holy Cross in their next match on Saturday, October 19. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Worcester.

"Playing back-to-back is always challenging," said Keckler. "We need to look at film and see what adjustments we will need to make for next week."
