BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Nineteen of Lehigh University's athletic programs finished at or above the national average as the NCAA released its latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) data on Tuesday. In addition, 12 programs earned perfect 1000 APR scores for the 2021-22 academic year and eight had perfect multi-year APR scores.
Â
Four men's programs achieved perfect multi-year APR scores: cross country, golf, track and field and tennis. On the women's side, basketball, cross country, soccer and track and field earned perfect (1000) multi-year APR scores. The most recent multi-year APR scores are based on the scores from 2018-19 through 2021-22. The new data released Tuesday marks the second straight year of a reporting following a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Â
The 12 programs to earn a perfect 1000 APR for the 2021-22 school year were men's basketball, men's swimming and diving, men's track and field, wrestling, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's field hockey, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, softball, women's swimming and diving and women's track and field. Men's cross country, men's golf and men's tennis were excluded from the 2021-22 public release for the second straight year due to FERPA regulations, as the data cells contained three or fewer student-athletes.
Â
Each academic year, every Division I sports team across the country calculates its APR using a simple and consistent formula. Each term, scholarship student-athletes can earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. For schools that do not offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked.
Â
A full list of APRs for each team can be accessed by using the APR searchable database.
