Lehigh Sets Program Records on Final Day of Patriot League Championship

4/23/2023 5:41:00 PM | Women's Golf

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – The Lehigh women's golf team set several program records on the final day of the Patriot League Championship, Sunday at Independence Golf Club. The Mountain Hawks recorded their lowest team round in program history (296) in the completion of Saturday's suspended second round and finished the tournament at 895, 15 strokes better than the previous program record for a 54-hole tournament.

Lehigh finished in third place in the six team field with rounds of 298, 296 and 301.

First-year Yuki Zhu led the way for the Mountain Hawks, tying for fifth place and earning first-team All-Patriot League honors with a 54-hole total of three under par 219 (74-70-75). Zhu's second round 70 tied for the second lowest individual round in program history, while her final total matched the program record for lowest 54-hole score. Reagan Jahn shot 219 in the 2019 Kiawah Island Spring Classic and Addy Douglas matched it at the 2019 Bucknell Invitational.

Zhu established Patriot League Championship low marks for a Lehigh player with her Sunday performance. Her second round 70 included seven birdies, six pars and five bogeys. She is the first Lehigh player to shoot 70 since Hannah Foster did so at the September 2022 Bucknell Invitational. Zhu birdied two of her final six holes in round three to move up to a first-team position.

Sophomore Madison Pineda became a two-time All-Patriot League honoree, as she tied for seventh place at four over par 220 (73-71-76). With Pineda's second round 71, she and Zhu became the first Lehigh teammates to shoot under par in the same round in program history. Pineda made four birdies in her round of 71, with three of the four coming before play was suspended. She added one birdie in her final round 76.

Pineda was the league's Rookie of the Year and a first-team all-league performer in 2022.

First-year Evelyn Wong led Lehigh in the final round, shooting two over par 74 to move into a tie for 14th place at 229 (76-79-74). Wong's second round 79 included three birdies on the back nine and her final round 74 was highlighted by birdies on two of her final four holes.

Foster capped her career with a strong top 20 finish as she tied for 18th place at 230 (78-76-76). She carded two birdies in round two before play was suspended and made three in her final round.

Junior Meghna Grover tied for 23rd place at 236 (78-81-77). Grover carded one birdie in each of her final two rounds.

After shooting a career-low 75 in round one, senior Iris Shin had to withdraw from the tournament Sunday morning.

Host Richmond claimed the team title at 874 (293-294-287). The Spiders carded a 16-stroke victory over runner-up Boston University.

Boston University had the individual champion in Christy Chen, who shot four under par 212 (74-69-69) to post a five-stroke victory over Richmond's Vicky Zhu.

Lehigh will graduate three seniors in Foster, Shin and Marina Mendez Legarra.
