BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's cross country returns to action tomorrow for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional. The race is set to take place at Lehigh's Goodman Campus cross country course, marking the third time that the Mountain Hawks will compete on their home course this season.
The Mountain Hawks competed at the Patriot League Championships on October 28 in Hamilton, N.Y. at Colgate University's cross country course. Lehigh placed fifth out of ten schools as a team and saw two runners earn All-Patriot League nods.
Lehigh's top finisher was first-year Thomas Smigo, who crossed the finish line in 25:04.2 to claim sixth overall in the race. Smigo's finish earned him the Patriot League Rookie of the Year, as he beat out all other first-year runners in the race. In addition, his top-seven finish earned him All-Patriot League first team honors. The win marked the first time a Lehigh runner has won the Rookie of the Year award in team history and the first Lehigh runner to earn first team honors since 2014.
Lehigh's second finisher was junior Aidan Lynch, who placed 14th with a time of 25:22.1 to earn an All-Patriot League second team distinction. Junior Kevin Harvey also ran well at the PLCs, placing 17th with a time of 25:27.4.
Other finishers for Lehigh included Noah Zahn (51st, 26:39.1), Dan Malatesta (61st, 26:53.7), Alex Heidemann (70th, 27:08.4), Max Leffler (88th, 27:54.8), Thomas Arnold (91st, 27:59.2), Connor Malinger (92nd, 28:00.1), and Henry Burd (109th, 37:27.8).
Following the Mid-Atlantic Regional, Lehigh's next competition would be the NCAA National Championship in Charlottesville, Virginia should the team or any individuals qualify.
