BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head men's basketball coach Dr. Brett Reed announced the signings of Hank Alvey and Edouard Benoit to Lehigh's graduating class of 2028. Alvey and Benoit are both frontcourt players who should pair well with the Mountain Hawks' young nucleus in years to come.

Alvey joins Lehigh from Mapleton, Illinois where he starred at Illini Bluffs High School. The 6-foot 9-inch 240-pound big man averaged 15.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.1 steals, 3.2 assists and 2.5 blocks per game throughout his high school career. Alvey was named IBCA Second-Team All-State 1A and helped lead his team to a 32-4 record and first super-sectional appearance in school history in 2022-23. Not only are his accomplishments impressive on the court, Alvey is an accomplished student as well, being named valedictorian of his high school and a member of the National Honors Society.

"We welcome Hank to Lehigh. Hank has soft hands, good footwork and a frame that will continue to develop. We believe Hank's combination of size, ruggedness and skill will make him an excellent contributor to our program," said Reed. "One of the most impressive things is that he makes winning plays and understands the game. Those are great qualities and should help translate to our team's success. Hank is also an excellent student who has excelled in his high school experiences. Coming from a family of educators, I know he is embracing all that Lehigh can provide for him academically."

"I am extremely grateful and excited to commit to Lehigh University," said Alvey. "It has everything I want in a school, academically, and athletically. Coach Reed and the coaching staff show great support and make me feel like I'm part of a family. The incredible opportunity of playing Division I basketball has been a lifelong dream, and I believe Lehigh is the school to fulfill my aspirations. Go Mountain Hawks!"

"Hank's decision to commit to Lehigh is one that I support wholeheartedly with utmost pride," said Alvey's mother, Stephanie. "Our visit with the coaching staff, team, faculty members, and everyone in between impressed upon us the importance of academics, character, teamwork, and loyalty—values we hold dear to our hearts. The connections we have made in just a short time have fostered a genuine sense of family. We are so thankful and excited for what lies ahead."

Benoit is a 6-foot 8-inch stretch forward from Montreal, Quebec, Canada who excelled on the court at Brebeuf School. He put up averages of 19.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.5 blocks per game. Benoit garnered several impressive achievements last season, including 2022-23 League MVP, 2022-23 First-Team All-Star and 2022-23 First-Team All-Canadian. His team finished with a 18-4 record last season and earned bronze in 2022-23. In addition to playing basketball, Benoit is also an amateur golfer.

"We are pleased to have Edouard join our program. Edouard is a very skilled player. He shoots the ball very well and also has a feel for the game with good vision and unselfishness," said Reed. "We like his size and versatility and envision him being able to play multiple positions for our program. Edouard is a very bright young man who should excel in the classroom as well as on the court. We look forward to working with him over the next four years."

"I'm thrilled to get the chance to play at the Division I level," said Benoit. "I can't wait to get to work with the coaching staff and the great group of guys I met during my visit. Go Mountain Hawks!"

"We have high hopes that Lehigh will be the perfect place to push Edouard as a player and as a person," said Benoit's parents.

Lehigh will next be in action on Friday to take on Penn State in State College. First tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
