Lehigh Downs Hartford, Falls To Dartmouth On Day One Of Dartmouth Invitational

HANOVER, N.H. – The Lehigh volleyball team split two matches Friday on the opening day of the Dartmouth Invitational at Leede Arena. The Mountain Hawks opened the day with a 3-0 victory over Hartford before falling 3-1 to host Dartmouth in the nightcap. Junior Katarina Kaburov totaled a team-best 23 kills on the day as the Mountain Hawks now stand at 7-2 on the season.

Lehigh's first match of the day saw the Mountain Hawks hit .247 while holding Hartford to a negative percentage. Kaburov and first-year Natalie Luscomb both registered eight kills, with Kaburov hitting .538 for the match. Sophomore Kyleigh Brown added three service aces and 13 digs. Sophomore Emily Stewart led the Mountain Hawks with five blocks, while classmate Makena Smith contributed 28 assists, six digs and four blocks.

Set scores were 25-14, 25-13 and 25-13 as the Mountain Hawks never trailed on their way to their seventh win in eight matches.

Greta De Gasper and Uzezi Ijoma each tallied five kills for Hartford (0-8).

In its second match of the day, Lehigh actually out-hit Dartmouth .226 to .212 and the Mountain Hawks held a 6-4 advantage in aces and a 9-6 edge in total team blocks.

The Big Green (4-1) claimed a back-and-forth first set 25-21 and then took the second 25-19, breaking open a tight, back-and-forth set by claiming the final six points.

Lehigh won set three 25-11, hitting .379 and holding Dartmouth to just .074. The set featured runs of 7-2 and 8-0 in the Mountain Hawks' favor. Dartmouth opened up a lead and held off Lehigh to win set four 25-18 to claim the match.

Kaburov hit .227 to go with her 15 kills while sophomore Megan Schulte added 12 kids and a .242 hitting percentage. Kyleigh Brown led Lehigh with 19 digs and Makena Smith added 11 to go along with 32 assists. Stewart contributed eight kills and six blocks.

Ava Roberts led Dartmouth with 18 kills.

The Mountain Hawks will wrap-up action at the Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday when they face Merrimack at 3 p.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
