Kandra Tabbed As Patriot League Rookie of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh first-year Maddie Kandra has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. Kandra scored a goal in both of Lehigh's games this past weekend. This marks the second consecutive week that a Lehigh first-year garnered the league's Rookie of the Week award.

Friday night against La Salle, Kandra scored her first career goal, deflecting in a shot from senior Sarah Bonthuis with under four minutes remaining. The goal put Lehigh up 3-1 as the Mountain Hawks held on for a 3-2 victory and the program's first win over La Salle since 2011.

On Sunday against Wagner, Kandra took a pass from classmate Zoe Day and scored her second goal of the weekend, which tied the game at 1-1 in the first quarter. She finished the weekend with five shots, all of which were on goal.

For the season, the Crofton, Md., native has two goals and an assist, while appearing in all six games.

Junior Abbie Brown picked up honorable mention recognition after scoring three goals and adding an assist this weekend. Brown scored twice in the win over La Salle and added a goal and an assist against Wagner on Sunday.

The Mountain Hawks will open Patriot League play against Boston University on Saturday in a game that will be played at Harvard. Game time is set for 1 p.m. Lehigh will also face Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Conn., Sunday at 1 p.m.
