Men's Golf Set For Patriot League Championship, Beginning Friday

4/28/2022 9:55:00 AM | Men's Golf

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team will stay close to home for the 2022 Patriot League Championship held at The Steel Club in Hellertown, Pa. The 54-hole championship will include three 18-hole rounds starting Friday and finishing Sunday.

The tournament will be hosted by Lafayette and will include other Patriot League schools Army West Point, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Navy and last year's champions Loyola. Lehigh last won the championship in 2013 when it was held at Saucon Valley Country Club.

The Steel Club will play at 6,875 yards to a par 72. Tee times will begin Friday at 8 a.m. with the Mountain Hawks starting at 8:54 a.m. with Bucknell and Army.

Junior David Hurly will likely headline the six-man lineup for the Mountain Hawks. Hurly most recently finished in a tie for sixth at the Wildcat Invitational and will head into the weekend with two straight top-ten appearances. He was named Patriot League Men's Golfer of the Week after shooting 144 (67-77) at Radnor Valley Country Club during the Wildcat Invitational.

Sophomore Edmund Broderick will start for the Mountain Hawks after a steady past couple of tournaments. He led the Mountain Hawks early in the fall season at the Columbia Autumn Invitational shooting 141 (70-71) and tying for fifth place. Broderick tied for fifth place in the Columbia Spring Invitational after shooting 142 (76-66) and was named Patriot League Men's Golfer of the Week.

Junior Daniel Song will be featured in the starting lineup in his PLC debut after a consistent spring season. Song was Lehigh's best finisher in the spring opener, shooting 230 (80-77-73) at the Big Texan Invitational in Kerrville, Texas.

Junior Sam Barton will round out Lehigh's upperclassmen playing this weekend. Barton was Lehigh's low-finisher at the Lehigh Invitational after shooting an even-par 144 (72-72) and tying for third place, one stroke off the co-medalists. The Patriot League named him Men's Golfer of the Week after his low finish. At last year's PLC, Barton earned first team All-Patriot League honors after tying for third place at the Naval Academy Golf Club.

First-years Aidan Oehrle and Jahan Bains will be making their PLC debuts. Oehrle shot a two-day total of 149 (74-75) and picked up a top ten finish at the Lehigh Invitational in the fall.

Last time out, Lehigh played a dual match play tournament at the President's Cup against Lafayette. The Mountain Hawks staged an incredible comeback in singles matches to tie and retain the cup for another year.

Lehigh has posted two team top-five finishes this season. Four Mountain Hawks finished inside the top 30 at the Columbia Autumn Invitational, good for a fourth place team finish. Barton was joined by top-20 finishes by Song and Hurly to lead Lehigh to finish fifth at the Lehigh Invitational.

The Mountain Hawks finished 11th out of 20 teams, shooting 595 (301-294) earlier this spring at the ABARTA Collegiate Invitational at The Steel Club. Hurly led the way shooting 143 (71-72) and tying for fifth place.

The top five individual finishers will earn first team All-Patriot League honors including ties. Individuals finishing sixth to 10th place will earn second team All-Patriot League honors. The team champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Golf Regionals along with the individual medalist if he is not on the championship team.

Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.com.

Tee times all three days will begin at 8 a.m.
