Mountain Hawks to Host Bucknell in Patriot League Action Saturday Morning

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh field hockey team returns to Ulrich Field on Saturday to host Bucknell in a Patriot League contest at 11 a.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

On Monday, the Mountain Hawks (7-5, 1-1 PL) defeated Villanova 2-1 in overtime to give Lehigh its fifth straight victory, the program's longest winning streak since 1986, and Lehigh's first win over Villanova since 1988. Senior Sarah Bonthuis got Lehigh on the board on a penalty stroke in the second quarter for her eighth goal of the season and the game-winning goal was scored by sophomore Guusje Hogendoorn, for her first-collegiate goal, with 8.7 seconds remaining in overtime to take down the Wildcats. Senior Maddie Kahn made six saves in the win and junior Lotte Smorenburg recorded her first defensive save of the season.
 
Junior Abbie Brown was selected as the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week that was announced on Monday afternoon. This is the first career weekly award for Brown, who scored her first career hat trick to lead the Mountain Hawks to their fourth consecutive win overall and their third straight over Lafayette.
 
Bonthuis leads Lehigh in scoring  with eight goals and seven assists, followed by Brown's seven goals. Eight other Mountain Hawks have registered at least one goal on the year. Kahn enters the weekend with a 2.34 goals-against average and a .718 save percentage in 12 starts.

Bucknell (4-7, 3-0 PL) travels to Bethlehem coming off a 3-0 loss to Cornell on the road on Sunday afternoon after taking down Colgate, 5-3, in Patriot League play on Saturday. Sophomore Isabella Pavlides scored twice and was credited with an assist in the victory over Colgate, with sophomore Lily Neilson, senior Kayla Kisthardt and senior Maddie Rehak also find the back of the cage for the Bison.
 
Senior goalkeeper Clara McCormick recorded five total saves, two in the win over Colgate and three saves versus Cornell. McCormick enters the match with a 3.03 goals-against average and 35 total saves in the nine matches she started.

Next weekend, the Mountain Hawks are on the road for two contests, first traveling to Washington, D.C. to face American on Friday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. Lehigh will then head to Longwood on Sunday, Oct. 16 for a non-conference match at 11 a.m.
