Lehigh Hosts Holy Cross in Pivotal Patriot League Contest

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh field hockey team hosts Holy Cross this weekend in a pivotal Patriot League game Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ulrich Field.

The Mountain Hawks and Crusaders are currently tied for fourth place in Patriot League standings. Both teams are 2-2 in league standings, with Lehigh (9-6) holding a better overall record. A win Saturday would strengthen the Mountain Hawks quest to return to the Patriot League Tournament.

Lehigh is coming off a 1-1 showing last weekend where the Mountain Hawks dropped a 3-1 league game at American on Friday and then bounced back with a 2-1 win at Longwood two days later.

Senior Sydney White received a Patriot League honorable mention this past week for leading a defense that did not allow a penalty corner against American and kept Longwood off the scoreboard in the second half.

Senior Sarah Bonthuis continues to lead the Lehigh offense with a total of 24 points. Bonthuis's average of 1.77 points per game is currently ranked 23rd in the nation.

The Mountain Hawks will need to maintain their intensity as the Crusaders (6-8) come into the weekend with a three game win streak, including league victories over American and Colgate.

Sophomore forward Meggan Fourie has led the Crusaders' offense with seven goals and 18 total points. Fourie had two assists last weekend against Colgate and LIU. Junior defender Haley Davis has been leading the backline for Holy Cross this season. She recently garnered Defensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Crusaders to a shutout victory over American, which boasts the Patriot League's highest scoring offense.

Junior forward Allie McDonough and junior goalie Brooke Ross earned Patriot League honorable mentions this past weekend. McDonough scored the game winning goal in double overtime against LIU. Ross had a successful weekend as she tallied eleven saves and just one goal against between the two games.

Although the Mountain Hawks are 12-21 against the Crusaders all-time, they broke a four-year losing streak in the series with a 5-0 win last season in Worcester, Mass.

Following Saturday's game, Lehigh will close out the regular season with home games against Colgate (Oct. 29) and Columbia (Oct. 30).
