The Mountain Hawks have now qualified for the Patriot League Tournament in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2004-2005. Another milestone reached as this is the first time since 1985-86 that a Lehigh field hockey squad put together 10-plus win seasons in back-to-back years. The Mountain Hawks improve to 10-6 on the year and 3-2 in Patriot League action as the Crusaders fall to 7-6 overall and 2-3 in league play this season.
Lehigh would score the first goal of the game in the first period when senior Sarah Bonthuis scored on a reverse shot that was blasted into the back of the cage. Bonthuis' ninth goal of the season was assisted by senior MJ Schwab to put the Mountain Hawks ahead, 1-0.

Heading into the second period with a 1-0 advantage, Lehigh would earn the first penalty corner of the match just 42 seconds into the quarter. First-year Maddie Kandra attempted a shot that was saved, but junior Lotte Smorenburg was on the near-side post to score off a rebound and give the Mountain Hawks a 2-0 lead.
After the intermission, Holy Cross came out strong to try and counter with a goal of their own, attempting two shots on goal in the third period that required senior Maddie Kahn to step in front and make a couple of saves. Lehigh did attempt three shots in the third, but none of them went on goal. Both squads would head into the fourth period at a score of 2-0 in favor of Lehigh.
In the fourth period, the Mountain Hawks peppered the Crusader goalkeeper with six shots, a third of the number of shots they attempted in the match, and was able to get the third and final goal of the contest into the back of the cage. Sophomore Eleni Kountroubis notched her third goal of the season off an assist from Bonthuis with over six minutes remaining in regulation. Bonthuis' assist puts her at nine this season, which ties the school record for assists in a single season, set by recent graduate Lenke Havas during 2018.

Defensively, Kahn recorded three saves to record her second shutout of the season and the eighth blank slate of her career. The Lehigh defense did not allow a single penalty corner in the first half and controlled the ball effectively and efficiently distributed throughout the midfield. The Mountain Hawks attempted 18 total shots, with 11 going on cage, and earned seven penalty corners.
Lehigh remains in Bethlehem for their final two matches of the regular season as they host Colgate next Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. as they celebrate Senior Day. On Sunday, Oct. 30, the Mountain Hawks conclude their schedule with a non-league contest against Columbia at 1 p.m. Both matches will broadcast live on ESPN+.
