Bednarsky earns prestigious Senior CLASS Award candidacy for second year in a row

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second straight year, Lehigh men's soccer fifth year senior Stevo Bednarsky has been named a candidate for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, announced on Thursday afternoon by the committee.
Bednarsky becomes the first player in program history to be a candidate twice and is Lehigh's fourth straight candidate dating back to 2018.
One of 30 candidates in the nation for Division I men's soccer, CLASS is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®. The Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
He is one of four candidates named from the Patriot League this season, joining Holy Cross' Max Krause, Navy's Matt Nocita and Loyola Maryland's Chase Vosvick.
Bednarsky has seen academic success at a prestigious institution in Lehigh's College of Arts and Sciences.
Graduating in the Spring 2021 semester with a bachelor's degree in sociology and anthropology, Bednarsky achieved a 3.0 cumulative grade point average throughout his four years at Lehigh.
Starting this fall and using his final year of eligibility, Bednarsky is beginning his master's coursework, studying Philosophy.
Bednarsky enters the fall 2021 season as just the fourth three-time team captain in program history, showing leadership both on and off the field and throughout the university.
While at Lehigh, Bednarsky has been actively involved with Lehigh's Flight 45 program, Lehigh Athletics' Leadership Academy in the Emerging Leaders program, which educates sophomore and junior student-athletes regarding how to lead by example, develop relationships with teammates, and gain the credibility to lead their team vocally while actively supporting the efforts of current team captains.
Bednarsky has been a part of many efforts within his Lehigh community. Lehigh men's soccer, along with every Lehigh Athletics team, takes part in Adopt-A-Family. During this annual event, the Mountain Hawks provide a holiday for an underprivileged family. Along with Lehigh fraternities, sororities and other departments, the event itself has raised up to $30,000.
He has been a consistent helper with the program's camps and clinics, taking the time out of his schedule in the summer to assist the coaching staff and clinicians, as well as during the season when the program hosts clinics prior to and following weekend games.
Lastly, Bednarsky has gained extensive experience coaching a local youth club team, Lehigh Valley United, through which he hopes he can pursue his dream and begin his soccer coaching career following graduation.
A three-time All-Patriot League selection with two first team honors (2019, Spring 2021), Bednarsky has an opportunity to become just the 14th player in Patriot League history with four All-League awards and the fifth Lehigh player.
The candidate class will be narrowed down to 10 finalists later in the season and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select the candidate that best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character, and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2021 NCAA Men's College Cup® championship in December.
