BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head men's basketball coach Brett Reed announced the Mountain Hawks' 2021-22 schedule on Monday, featuring three games against power conference opponents (all who qualified for the 2021 NCAA Tournament) and many local matchups against regional rivals. The Mountain Hawks open the season with one of those NCAA Tournament teams, Rutgers, while also playing at Virginia and Syracuse.
To open the season on Tuesday, Nov. 10, Lehigh and Rutgers will square off for the first time since 2006, but it will mark the 104th meeting in program history in a longstanding series that goes back to the 1906-07 season. Out of the Big Ten, the Scarlet Knights finished last season 15-11 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1991.
The Mountain Hawks return home for their home opener, hosting NJIT on Saturday, Nov. 13. Lehigh then hits the road for games at Monmouth (Nov. 16) and Merrimack (Nov. 19). Those precede a home matchup vs. Columbia on Nov. 23.
On the Friday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 26), Lehigh will head to UVA for a showdown at the 2019 National Champion Cavaliers.
The ensuing weeks feature games home vs. Saint Francis (Pa.) (Nov. 28), at Yale (Dec. 1) and vs. Maryland Eastern Shore (Dec. 4).
The nonleague schedule wraps up with a game at Syracuse on Saturday, Dec. 18. The Mountain Hawks last played in the Carrier Dome to open the 2015-16 season, a 57-47 Syracuse victory. Lehigh's final two nonleague games are at home, including a Dec. 21 showdown vs. Albany out of the America East.
The Patriot League slate begins on New Year's Day, a Saturday at American. The Mountain Hawks' first home Patriot League contest is Tuesday, Jan. 4 vs. Colgate.
The rest of January includes games at Army West Point (Jan. 7), vs. Holy Cross (Jan. 10), at Bucknell (Jan. 13), against Loyola (Jan. 16), at Navy (Jan. 19), at Boston University (Jan. 22), vs. Army West Point (Jan. 26) and at Holy Cross (Jan. 29).
February begins with consecutive home games – against Navy (Feb. 2) and Boston University (Feb. 5) before back-to-back road contests at Colgate (Feb. 9) and Lafayette (Feb. 12).
The month, and regular-season schedule, wraps up vs. Bucknell (Feb. 16), at Loyola (Feb. 20), against American (Feb. 23) and at Lafayette (Feb. 26).
The Patriot League Tournament begins with the first round on Mar. 1 followed by the quarterfinals (Mar. 3), semifinals (Mar. 6) and championship game (Mar. 9).
Lehigh returns its top seven scorers from the 2020-2021 season, led by All-Patriot League and All-Region honoree Marques Wilson. The program, with a long-standing tradition of excellence under Reed, is poised for a strong season after managing a COVID modified season last year.
Ticket sales for both nonleague and Patriot League contests at Stabler Arena are still to be determined. While all games will be streamed live on ESPN+ (subscription required), television and radio information are to be announced at a later date.
