BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Patriot League play officially begins this weekend for the Lehigh volleyball program as the Mountain Hawks (3-7) hit the road to take on Colgate Friday night at 7 p.m. and Army West Point Saturday night at the same time.

Lehigh is coming off a big home victory Tuesday night against Penn in what was a rowdy Grace Hall crowd. The victory snapped the Mountain Hawks' three-match losing streak.

For Lehigh, it was a lethal combination of freshman Megan Schulte (18) and fifth year senior Hannah Wright (15) who combined for 33 of the team's 61 kills on the evening.

Schulte currently leads the team in overall kills with 119, averaging 3.22 per set in 10 matches. She is hitting .227 with 75 digs, second on the team with 19 total blocks. Wright has 104 kills with a hitting percentage of .267, the best mark on the team in 10 matches played. Freshman setter Makena Smith has 286 total assists with 8.67 per set and has also been a menace at the net, totaling 23 total blocks, good for third on the team.

The Mountain Hawks are hitting .191 as a team this season, good for first in the Patriot League. Lehigh has totaled 11.4 kills per set.

Colgate, the regular season champions in the spring, are 3-6 to open the 2021 season. The Raiders have won two straight matches, both at the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament at Cotterell Court in Hamilton, defeating Cleveland State in straight sets on Saturday in the opener and Hofstra, 3-1 in the nightcap.

Lehigh will be Colgate's first Patriot League opponent of the season on Friday, followed closely by a 4 p.m. match against Lafayette on Saturday.

Abby Shadwick leads the team with 65 kills, followed by Libby Overmyer with 64. Julia Kurowski has 252 assists to pace the Raiders, while Sophia Thompson has 42 blocks and Taylor Cigna has 97 digs.

Colgate leads the all-time series against Lehigh, 45-19. The Mountain Hawks have dropped seven straight meetings and have not won against the Raiders since Sept. 22, 2017.

Defending Patriot League Champion Army West Point has had a strong start to the new season, already out to a 6-3 record through its first nine matches. As part of the Jack Kaiser Classic in Queens, the Black Knights went 1-2 with a win over Fordham and two losses against Boston College and host St. John's.

Savannah Bray is Army's leader in kills with 91, while Paige Fixemer has 87 and Cate Buckingham has 82. Buckingham also leads the way with an attack percentage of .274. Diana Etheridge has 306 assists, averaging 9.27 per set, while Fixemer has 33 blocks and Sayler Butters has 142 digs.

Army West Point holds a 42-16 record all-time against Lehigh, winning seven of the last eight matchups including three straight. The Mountain Hawks last beat the Black Knights in five sets back on Sept. 28, 2018.
