Lehigh is now 3-2 on the year, the second time in three seasons with a winning record after five games (along with 2019). Prior to 2019, it hadn't happened since 2000.
Â
"We had a challenging practice yesterday. We had some key components we wanted to hit," said Lehigh head coach Caitlin Dallmeyer. "One, we wanted to work on intercepting the ball and making sure that we didn't put ourselves in a 1v1 defensive position. Two, we needed to work on our press. Three, we really needed to focus on connecting and communicating.
Â
"I thought we did two of them really, really well. We're still working on communicating as a team, especially when we have lulls in the game and using our energy and our voices to rise up and problem solve, but we'll get there."
With Sunday's win, Lehigh is 3-0 at home for the first time since 1998. They've begun the season with five straight multi-goal games for the first time since 1983. The Mountain Hawks' 14 goals through five games are their most since 2004.Miss today's 2-1 win over Georgetown? We'll forgive you this time :) We've got you covered. pic.twitter.com/OLEgVkZFyB

Lehigh had the better of the play early, posting a 6-2 first-quarter shots advantage. The sixth shot found the back of the net, as senior Olivia Perrone sprung Bonthuis in on the right side and the junior fired a high shot from distance that beat Georgetown goalkeeper Ciara Weets at the 14:20 mark.
Just 3:33 into the second quarter, Bonthuis was in the middle of the action again. This time, she fired a ball towards cage, which Mullery deflected past Weets for a 2-0 lead. Here's how we got the scoring started today, an amazing shot off the stick of Sarah Bonthuis for her team-leading fourth goal of the season! pic.twitter.com/nGe77kxEAN

Georgetown got on the board late in the stanza, as Sophie Towne deflected a feed past Kahn to pull within 2-1 at 28:11. That well-placed shot didn't change the impact Kahn made, as she made two stellar stops in the second quarter to keep the Mountain Hawks in front at the half. This Leah Mullery goal, from Sarah Bonthuis, gave Lehigh a 2-0 lead this afternoon and proved to be the game-winner. pic.twitter.com/gCV8Biowbq

The third quarter saw Lehigh hold a 7-1 edge in shots and 6-1 advantage in penalty corners (five coming consecutively in less than a minute of game time).
Â
Georgetown turned the tides and held a 6-0 shots edge in the fourth. Three shots on goal (and two corners) came in the final 30 seconds, but Kahn and the Lehigh defense stood tall.
Final shots were 16-12 in favor of Lehigh while the Mountain Hawks held an 11-4 edge in corners. Kahn's seven saves came across Weets, who made four for Georgetown.Maddie Kahn was sensational all game, including coming up big with a pair of stops in the final seconds as the Mountain Hawks wrapped up the 2-1 victory! pic.twitter.com/gJTD7yxAZl

Â
"It's really tough to be in this situation where you're up 2-1 and then have those two defensive corners at the end," said Dallmeyer. "Mentally, that's a really hard challenge. In the past, we haven't always been able to keep that ball out of the cage. Maddie did a great job of keeping the defense focused and making sure we could make some good stops to preserve the win."
Â
The Mountain Hawks now look ahead to Patriot League play, which begins this Friday at home vs. Boston University. Gametime is set for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
"Happy to have a winning record going into a really tough BU team," said Dallmeyer. "We've got confidence underneath us and we're really focused to continue to show off our skills on the Patriot League stage."
