Â
"We went into this game knowing it was going to be a really big battle," said Lehigh head coach Caitlin Dallmeyer. "It has been every year for us in my time here. We worked to prepare as best we could this week and unfortunately, a lot of what we worked on didn't translate into game play today. We need to figure out how to take a better mental approach into a challenging game, make sure that we are retaining and understanding and being able to execute on gameday."
Â
Pecora came out strong, firing the game's first shot (which was on goal) in the third minute before she opened the scoring at the 6:10 mark off a feed from senior Olivia Perrone.
Â
That score stood until late in the second quarter, as La Salle scored in the 25th and 28th minutes to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. Junior Maddie Kahn came up big in the final minute of the stanza, making consecutive saves to keep the deficit at one.

Lehigh quickly pulled even in the second half, as precision passing led to senior Sam Nason finding Perrone, who found Pecora in the circle. Pecora then passed to Bonthuis, who roofed the shot into the corner of the net to make it 2-2 at 32:31.

The momentum didn't last long, however, as the Explorers retook a 3-2 lead just 50 seconds later.
Â
In the 39th minute, Lehigh nearly finished a highlight-reel sequence of passes into the equalizer, but Perrone's shot was stopped by La Salle goalkeeper Ryan Curley. Then less than a minute after that, the Explorers added insurance to take a 4-2 lead at 39:36.
Â
The insurance was needed for La Salle as Pecora put home a rebound off a penalty corner with just over three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Less than a minute after that, the Mountain Hawks earned another corner, but couldn't convert as the Explorers held on, 4-3.

Final shots were 15-14 in favor of Lehigh while La Salle held a 5-4 edge in penalty corners. Kahn finished with five saves while Curley made six.
Â
The Mountain Hawks return home on Sunday to host Georgetown at 11 a.m. on ESPN+.
Â
"There's a lot we need to work on before Sunday, but luckily, we've got a whole day and a lot of time to do it," said Dallmeyer. "We'll be really tuned in tomorrow to watching film and understanding where we can be better."
