Kahn Named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year; Three Named All-League

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following a season full of breakthroughs, a number of Lehigh field hockey student-athletes were recognized with Patriot League postseason awards on Tuesday. Sophomore Maddie Kahn was named the league's Goalkeeper of the Year while Kahn, senior Lenke Havas and first-year Julia Gatelein were all named All-League honorees. The program's first major award winner since 2011, Kahn is joined by Havas – Lehigh's first-ever four-time All-League honoree – on the first team. Meanwhile, Gatelein is the Mountain Hawks' first rookie since Havas in 2017 to earn All-Patriot League recognition.

This marks the first time since 2011 that three Mountain Hawks have been named All-League.

Kahn was dominant in four games played this spring, stopping 29 of the 33 shots sent her way for an 87.9 save percentage, which is currently fourth nationally. She is second in the country in saves per game (7.25). Kahn helped Lehigh to consecutive shutouts to open the season for the first time since 2000, as the Mountain Hawks defeated Lafayette and Bucknell in the same season for the first time since 2004. Kahn followed those shutouts with eight saves vs. Holy Cross and 10 stops at American. One of those goals against the Eagles came on a penalty stroke. Kahn was twice named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week. She posted a 1.01 goals against average, which is a program record for a season, while her save percentage is good for fourth in program history.

Named first team All-League for a third straight season, Havas becomes Lehigh's first-ever four-time All-Patriot League honoree (she was named to the second team as a first-year). A difference maker all over the field, Havas saw significant time in the midfield and at center back this spring. Offensively, she posted three goals and six points, both tied for the team high. Havas scored twice in Lehigh's 4-0 win over Bucknell, the largest margin of victory against the Bison in program history. She also scored a big first-half goal at No. 20 Boston University. Havas made a defensive save at American while helping anchor a defense that allowed its fewest goals (and had its best scoring margin) in Patriot League play since 1996.

Gatelein began the season, and her career, in impressive fashion. Playing her first collegiate game, she scored the game's only goal in a 1-0 win at Lafayette – Lehigh's first win at Lafayette since 2005. Gatelein was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for her efforts. She went on to score a goal against Bucknell then tallied a second-quarter equalizer at No. 20 Boston University.
