Strong Final Round Lifts Mountain Hawks To Eighth At Wildcat Invitational

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Five players shot 76 or better resulting in a three stroke improvement as the Lehigh men's golf team shot a final round 292 Tuesday at the Wildcat Invitational at Radnor Valley Country Club. The Mountain Hawks finished at 587 (295-292) to claim eighth place out of 16 teams.
Sophomore David Hurly was Lehigh's top finisher, tying for sixth place at three over par 143 (70-73). Hurly birdied two of his final three holes to close out his second round 73.
Lehigh's low round on Tuesday was turned in by sophomore Sam Barton, who shot two over par 72 to move into a tie for 29th place at 147 (75-72). Barton carded one birdie in Tuesday's final round.
Senior Owen Quinn made two birdies on the back nine and shot 76 Tuesday to finish in a tie for 34th place at 148 (72-76).
Lehigh's two biggest improvements from Monday came from freshman Edmund Broderick and sophomore Joey Dotta. Broderick made a pair of birdies in a final round 73, improving five shots from Monday and finishing in a tie for 45th at 151 (78-73). Dotta made a seven stroke improvement, shooting 74 with a pair of birdies to tie for 75th at 155 (81-74).
Freshman AJ Gilpin finished 93rd in his first college tournament, shooting 170 (86-84).
St. John's held off a late charge by Temple to edge the Owls by one stroke for the team title. The Red Storm shot 573 (277-296) while the Owls finished at 574 (293-281). Bucknell finished third at 577.
Rider's Nathan Bazant was the individual medalist at one under par 139 (70-69). He posted a one stroke victory over Temple's Conor McGrath and Jack Simon of St. John's.
Next up for the Mountain Hawks will be Lafayette's Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational Sunday and Monday at The Steel Club in Hellertown.
