BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Hard work has paid off, especially over the last two weekends as freshman outside hitter Lylah Washington was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week by the league office on Monday afternoon. Washington's award marks her first career weekly honor and the Mountain Hawks' first Rookie of the Week since Alina Lam won it twice in 2018.
Picking up right where she left off following Lehigh's sweep of Bucknell one week ago, Washington got right back to work in dominant fashion Sunday at Loyola. She led the way with a career-high 19 kills, adding 13 digs and two blocks, good enough for her first career double-double.
She has now reached double-digit kills in three consecutive matches, each becoming a new career-high. Washington is averaging four kills per set during that span and is currently third on the team in kills (67) and third in kills per set (2.68). Her 58 digs rank first on the team for non-liberos, averaging 2.32 per set.
Washington and the Mountain Hawks close out the regular season this weekend with a pair of road matches at Holy Cross. After starting the season 0-4, Lehigh has won three straight matches and looks to finish the regular season with an above-.500 record.
