Mountain Hawks Fourth After Day One At Lehigh Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team shot 315 in Monday's opening round of the Lehigh Invitational on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. Sophomore Sophia Taverna shot 77 to lead the way for the Mountain Hawks, who sit in fourth place out of 11 teams after the opening 18 holes.
 
Taverna's 77 included birdies on holes 12 and 14 as she is tied for fourth place after the opening round. Junior Iris Shin is also in the top 10 after day one. Shin shot 78 that included a birdie on 12 and is tied for ninth place.
 
Freshman Madison Pineda and sophomore Sophie Holland are part of a tie for 14th place after shooting 80 on Monday. Pineda made one birdie in her opening round, while Holland had a team-best three birdies.
 
Lehigh's fifth scoring player is junior Hannah Foster, who shot 84 and is tied for 35th place.
 
The Mountain Hawks had three players compete as individuals. Freshman Sophie Chang shot 82 with a birdie and is tied for 26th while classmate Mia Scarpati carded an 83 and is tied for 30th. Scarpati shot a solid 37 on the front nine. Junior Marina Mendez shot 92 and is tied for 53rd place.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson had the top two individuals and leads the team race after an opening round 305. Navy is second at 312 while Monmouth sits in third place at 314.
 
FDU's Nicola Smith shot one under par 71 and leads teammate Caterina Tatti by two strokes for the individual lead. The next best score on Monday was a 76 by Navy's Mara Hirtle.
 
The Lehigh Invitational concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes with tee times beginning at 9 a.m.
