Keckler announces Volleyball's tri-captains for upcoming year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Preparations for the eventual start of a season may look a bit different right about now for the Lehigh volleyball team, but the program will have three key student-athletes leading the charge for a return to the court.
Head coach Alexa Keckler named senior Sabrina Lancaster, junior Ava Hudson and sophomore Amaya Smith the Mountain Hawks' captains for the 2020-21 school year, announced by the third-year head coach on Tuesday.
"We are so excited to have Sabrina, Ava and Amaya lead our program this year," said Keckler. "They have each shown such passion and buy in to what our program is all about: doing right."
"We feel our team has such respect and admiration for their hard work, team first mentality and academic excellence. I am confident their leadership skills will not only help our team on the court but will be a shining light during this challenging time."
This will mark Lancaster's second go-around as one of the team's tri-captains, after being an integral part of the leadership core during the 2019 season, helping Lehigh reach the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 2017. She has accumulated 831 kills in three years, along with 510 digs and 104 total blocks while appearing in 275 sets. Lancaster was just two kills shy of reaching the 300 or more plateau for the second consecutive season.
Hudson found herself a big part of the team's bench last season appearing in 21 matches and tallying 80 kills and 84 digs in 47 sets played. While only seeing action in five matches last season, Smith will be an important part of the team's depth moving forward.
