BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Thirteen Lehigh athletic teams were recognized with Academic Progress Rate Public Recognition Awards, as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday. Awards are given each year to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in their respective sport with their Academic Progress Rate (APR).
The Lehigh teams that received Public Recognition Awards include: baseball, men's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, men's tennis, men's track and field, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's lacrosse, women's rowing, women's soccer, women's tennis and women's track and field.
Lehigh has had at least nine programs recognized by the NCAA in all 15 years of the APR Public Recognition Awards program. In each of the previous two years, Lehigh established a school record with 16 APR Public Recognition Awards. Two Lehigh teams: women's cross country and women's rowing have received Public Recognition Awards in all 15 years of the program's existence. Patriot League schools account for 12 of the 62 programs that have won such awards in all 15 years. The Patriot League ranked second in both the number of teams recognized and the percentage of teams recognized.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.
The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
The 1,380 Division I teams publicly recognized for high achievement represent 881 women's teams and 499 men's or mixed squads. The scores required to be in the top 10 ranged from 987 to a perfect 1,000, depending on the sport, with 1,266 teams earning a perfect APR score. A total of 326 schools placed at least one team on the top APR list.
All Division I teams' APR scores will be released on May 19. All teams must meet a certain academic threshold to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
