Quinn's 71 paces Mountain Hawks on day one of UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate

PALM CITY, Fla. – Senior Owen Quinn led the way with a round of one under par 71 as the Lehigh men's golf team opened up its spring season with round one of the three-day UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate Friday on the Osprey Course at Martin Downs Golf Club.
 
As a team, Lehigh put together a strong total of 297, but with a boatload of low scores on the day the Mountain Hawks are 12th out 14 teams.
 
Quinn's opening round featured four birdies and a 35 on the back nine. He is currently tied for 33rd place.
 
Behind Quinn, freshman Sam Barton carded a 74 and is tied for 59th place. Barton's round featured two birdies and four bogeys.
 
Freshmen David Hurly and Alex Aurora both shot 76 and are tied for 68th place. Hurly carded three birdies in his round while Aurora made one.
 
Senior Ryan Kelly made three birdies on his opening round 77 and is tied for 79th place.
 
Lehigh also got strong performances from its two freshmen competing as individuals. Daniel Song made four birdies and shot even par 72. He is tied for 44th place. Joey Dotta also made four birdies and shot 75 to join Barton as part of the tie for 59th place.
 
Tournament host UNCG shot 270 as a team to take a six stroke lead over James Madison after the opening 18 holes. Old Dominion sits in third place at 277.
 
UNCG's Jonathan Brightwell shot a blistering 10 under par 62 and holds a four stroke lead over four players after round one.
 
The UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate continues Saturday with round two from the Osprey Course at Martin Downs Golf Club.
