
Mountain Hawks tied for ninth after first round of Wildcat Invitational

MALVERN, Pa. – An opening round of nine over par 293 has the Lehigh men's golf team tied for ninth in a 20-team field after day one of the Wildcat Invitational Monday at White Manor Country Club. Junior Owen Quinn led the way for the Mountain Hawks, shooting two under par 69 to sit in a tie for eighth place heading into Tuesday's final round.
Quinn's opening round featured five birdies and three bogeys. He trails Connor Schmidt of Drexel by six strokes. Schmidt shot 63 to lead Beau Bayerl of Akron by three strokes in the individual race.
Behind Quinn, junior Ryan Kelly carded two birdies and is tied for 17th place at one over par 72.
Freshman Michael Tanaka shot four over par 75 and is tied for 59th place, while seniors Max Redetzke and Lee Hammerschmidt both shot 77 and are tied for 87th place. Hammerschmidt did make three birdies Monday, while Tanaka carded one.
Drexel leads the team race after shooting 12 under par 272. The Dragons lead Akron by two strokes with Lafayette and Colgate tied for third at 286.
The Wildcat Invitational concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes from White Manor Country Club. There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Live scoring will once again be available on BirdieFire.
