Quinn, Marone in top 25 after round one of Lafayette's Invitational

HELLERTOWN, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team shot an opening round 311 Sunday at the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational hosted by Lafayette at the Steel Club. Two Mountain Hawks sit in the top 25 individually, while as a team Lehigh is tie for 14th place in a 20-team field entering Monday's final round.
 
Junior Owen Quinn was Lehigh's low player Sunday, carding a two over par 74 as he is tied for 14th place after day one. Quinn's day was highlighted by three consecutive birdies on 14, 15 and 16.
 
Senior Eamon Marone is competing as an individual but turned in a strong round of three over par 75 and is tied for 22nd place. Marone carded the low score among the 16 players competing as individuals.
 
The second lowest score among Lehigh's scorers belongs to freshman Michael Tanaka, who shot 76 and is tied for 38th place. Tanaka made one birdie Sunday, on the par 5 15th hole.
 
Three other Mountain Hawks shot in the low 80s Sunday. Senior Max Redetzke carded an 80 and is tied for 78th place. Junior Ryan Kelly shot 81 and is tied for 88th. Senior Lee Hammerschmidt is tied for 96th place after an 82.
 
Colgate shot two over par 290 to take the 18 hole team lead by four strokes over Bucknell, Lafayette and St. Peter's.
 
Chris Tanabe of Bucknell is the individual leader at three under par 69, one stroke better than Ryan Skae of Colgate and Matthew Stafford of Bryant.
 
The Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational concludes Monday with the final round beginning at 9 a.m. from the Steel Club.
