Lehigh opens play at Lady Thunderbird Invitational in Southern Utah

ST. GEORGE, Utah – After waiting through a cancellation of their match with Fairleigh Dickinson on Tuesday, the Mountain Hawks finally dug in for some competition on Thursday. Lehigh shot 313 in the opening round of the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational and sits in eighth place out of 14 teams after day one.
 
Senior Reagan Jahn once again led the way for Lehigh carding a team-best four over par 76 on Thursday. Jahn is tied for 18th place. Junior Minuette Laessig was one stroke behind and is tied for 23rd place.
 
Lehigh's third lowest score Thursday was turned in by senior Aileen Jeong, who is tied for 39th place after a 79.
 
Also competing for Lehigh were junior Rebecca Markunas, who shot 81 and is tied for 52nd place, and sophomore Angela Ding, who is tied for 56th place after an 82.
 
Freshman Alexis Carras is competing as an individual and shot 91 in Thursday's opening round.
 
Four teams broke 300 on Tuesday, with Cal Baptist leading the field at 292, three strokes better than Xavier.
 
Sarah Bell of Oral Roberts shot two under par 70 to take the individual lead. Chanikan Yongyuan of host Southern Utah and Samantha Martirez of Cal Baptist are a stroke off the lead.
 
The Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational concludes Friday with the final 18 holes. A shotgun start is set for 9 a.m. MT. Lehigh will play with Weber State and Eastern Washington in round two.
