BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following its best win total since 2007, a pair of top Lehigh field hockey performers received All-Patriot League honors on Tuesday. Junior Lenke Havas was named first team All-League for a second straight season, garnering All-League for the third time in as many years (also earning second team as a freshman). In addition, junior Drew Pecora picked up second team All-Patriot League following her record-breaking goal scoring season.
Â
Anchoring Lehigh's defense at center back, Havas also finished second on the Mountain Hawks in points (15) behind five goals and a team-high five assists. As an integral member of Lehigh's penalty corners (both defensive and offensive), Havas assisted on the game's only goal in a season-opening win at Rider. She went on to score goals vs. Richmond, at Wagner, at Bryant, vs. American and at Sacred Heart. Havas was a two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, winning the award on Monday (following wins over Saint Louis and Boston University) and on Sept. 2 (following the win over Rider). Havas and the Lehigh defense allowed just 43 goals on the season, its lowest total since 2003. Havas was also named All-Region last season.
Â
Pecora received her first-career All-Patriot League honor following a program-record 14 goals this season. In the season finale, Pecora broke Kim Eng's program-record 13 goals scored in 2009. Pecora scored just 1:56 into the extra session to give Lehigh the thrilling 2-1 win over the defending Patriot League Champions, and the program's first-ever win over Boston University. Pecora also added three assists on the year for 31 points, also second in school history. She had four multi-goal games on the season, scoring in 10-of-18 games including the final three contests. Pecora played a key role in the Mountain Hawks' 5-1 start to 2019 – their best start since 1983 – scoring multiple goals in wins over Towson, Georgetown and Wagner.
Lehigh improved its final record to 7-11, including 2-4 in league play. The Mountain Hawks finished in a three-way tie for fourth place (with Holy Cross and Boston University), but the Crusaders won the tiebreaker. Regardless, it was a huge season of progress for the program. Along with their best start since 1983 and best overall record since 2007, the Mountain Hawks' 35 goals were also their most since 2007 while their 43 goals allowed were fewest since 2003. Lehigh's goal differential (-8) was also its best since 2004.
