BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following a season of progress which featured the program's most wins since 2007, Lehigh field hockey juniors Lenke Havas and Drew Pecora were both named second team All-Mideast Region by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on Monday. It marked the first time in program history that Lehigh field hockey placed a pair on an All-Region team. Havas received the honor for a second straight season, becoming just the second two-time All-Region honoree in program history.
Â
Prior to last season, the Mountain Hawks received four All-Region honors in program history (Christy Smith in 2006 and 2007, Kim Eng in 2009 and Sierra Seager in 2011). Lehigh has had three over the last two seasons.
Â
"We are thrilled to have had two very deserving players named to the All-Region team," said head coach Caitlin Dallmeyer. "We know the impact Lenke and Drew make on the program every day, and we are happy to know the coaches of opposing teams see it as well. Being the first time in history our program has had two players recognized by the All-Region committee in one season, we feel validated in knowing that others are seeing the increased talent developing through our program."
Â
Lehigh's two honorees are tied for the second most in the Patriot League this season – tied with Lafayette and Boston University and only trailing American. Colgate also had one.
Havas and Pecora also garnered All-Patriot League honors (first and second team, respectively), making an impact all over the field. Anchoring Lehigh's defense at center back, Havas also finished second on the Mountain Hawks in points (15) behind five goals and a team-high five assists. As an integral member of Lehigh's penalty corners (both defensive and offensive), Havas assisted on the game's only goal in a season-opening win at Rider. She went on to score goals vs. Richmond, at Wagner, at Bryant, vs. American and at Sacred Heart. Havas was a two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, winning the award on Monday (following wins over Saint Louis and Boston University) and on Sept. 2 (following the win over Rider). Havas and the Lehigh defense allowed just 43 goals on the season, its lowest total since 2003. Havas was also named All-Region last season.
Â
Pecora received her first-career All-Patriot League honor following a program-record 14 goals this season. In the season finale, Pecora broke Kim Eng's previous record 13 goals scored in 2009. Pecora scored just 1:56 into the extra session to give Lehigh the thrilling 2-1 win over the defending Patriot League Champions, and the program's first-ever win over Boston University. Pecora also added three assists on the year for 31 points, also second in school history. She had four multi-goal games on the season, scoring in 10-of-18 games including the final three contests. Pecora played a key role in the Mountain Hawks' 5-1 start to 2019 – their best start since 1983 – scoring multiple goals in wins over Towson, Georgetown and Wagner.
Â
Lehigh improved its final record to 7-11 in 2019, including 2-4 in league play. The Mountain Hawks finished in a three-way tie for fourth place (with Holy Cross and Boston University), but the Crusaders won the tiebreaker. Regardless, it was a huge season of progress for the program. Along with their best start since 1983 and best overall record since 2007, the Mountain Hawks' 35 goals were also their most since 2007 while their 43 goals allowed were fewest since 2003. Lehigh's goal differential (-8) was also its best since 2004.
