Women's Swimming and Diving defeats Lafayette for the 12th straight time

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Might have been a different year, but the story remains the same, as the
Lehigh women's swimming and diving team won its 12th straight meet against the Lafayette Leopards on Friday night.
 
Prior to the start, the Mountain Hawks took a few moments to honor their seniors, followed by winning 14-of-16 events. At the end of the night, the scoreboard stated 185-113, in favor of the good guys.
 
"Tonight was a testament to the continuing theme of Lehigh University's dominance over Lafayette," stated head coach Rob Herb. "There was no standout tonight on our side, this was a team victory in which everyone contributed."
 
Throughout the night, a plethora of Mountain Hawks recorded multiple wins for Lehigh. Payton Miles and Sarah Hardy won three events, while Liz Olszewski, Anna Francisco, Ann Foley and Tori Connolly each racked up two wins.
 
Multiple records were broken on the night as well. Both Lehigh relay teams shattered pool records in front of a huge crowd. In the 100 back, Francisco broke the pool record with a new time of 55.91. In the 100 free, Miles raced past her opponents and finished with an amazing time of 50.29, while then also breaking a pool record In the 50 free with a time of 23.39.. Then in the 200 fly, the freshman Hardy won with a time of 2:01.70, while Malia Wolf recorded a time of 55.50 in the 100 fly.
 
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Anna Thomas, Francisco, Hardy and Miles came in first with a time of 1:44.78, while the 800 free relay team of Sam Gallego, Megan Judge, Foley and Connolly raced past their competition and won with a time of 7:24.40.
 
In the 200 back, Sophia Poeta finished first with a time of 2:03.18 and Nicole Shek captured a first-place finish in the 100 IM at 58.71.
 
"I have thankfully been a part of 16 years of Lehigh-Lafayette meets, but this one brought so much excitement and energy, it was so thrilling," concluded Herb.
 
Up next, the women will gear up for a tough Rutgers Invitational on December 4. This four-day event will be held on the campus of Rutgers.
