Mountain Hawks to conclude regular season at Holy Cross Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — With just one match remaining before the Patriot League Tournament, the Lehigh volleyball team heads to Worcester on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. to take on Holy Cross. The Mountain Hawks (13-16, 6-9 PL) have already clinched a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2017 an a win over the Crusaders would clinch the No. 5 seed and play in a quarterfinal match on the road on Tuesday.
Lehigh has dropped its last five matches on the year, last falling to Loyola on Tuesday night in the final match at Grace Hall, 3-1. Though the Mountain Hawks will finish with their first losing season since 2016, the team has high hopes that they can make a run as the tournament gets set to begin.
The Mountain Hawks will use the services of juniors Hannah Wright and Sabrina Lancaster to pace the offense. Wright leads the way in kills with 291, while Lancaster has added 286 kills with a team-high 3.29 kills per set. Senior Julia Pressly eclipsed the 200-kill mark for the fourth consecutive season and currently has 201. Senior Lauren Bright leads the team with a .334 attack percentage, also ranked second on the team in total blocks with 105. She is joined by fellow senior middle-blocker Emily Poole, who leads Lehigh in total blocks with 120 and solo blocks with 32. Poole's .296 attack percentage is ranked second on the team and she has also added 157 kills, the fourth-most on the roster.
Sophomore setters Sarah Carman and Alina Lam have shared the bulk of the workload this season with Carman tallying 658 total assists and Lam adding 370. 304 of Lam's 370 assists this year so far have come in league play, while Carman has 223 in league play.
Senior libero Jess Donaldson has emerged this season as the one to replace Emily Develle after last season and she has been brilliant during the Patriot League slate this year, with 240 total digs, with 186 of them coming during the league schedule. She is averaging 3.58 digs per set and has also registered 19 service aces.
The Mountain Hawks are hitting .207 as a team this season, averaging 12.1 kills per set, 11.4 assists per set and 14.2 digs per set. Lehigh's 250.5 total blocks lead the Patriot League this season by a wide margin.
The Crusaders (5-23, 2-12 PL) are out of the tournament hunt with just one match to play, but will look to end the season on a high note after earning their first two victories of the campaign, 3-0 wins over both Bucknell and Lafayette.
Holy Cross' kill leaders are Gracyn Benck with 222 so far in 2019, while Rachel Harding has 221 kills. Katie Kerins leads the way with a .246 attack percentage, while Clare Honan has a team-high 61 total blocks and Sophie VanSeveren leads the team with 456 digs, averaging 4.43 per set. Shannon Dwyer is the team's leader in assists with 683, while Kathleen Philo has added 262 assists.
The Crusaders are hitting at a .155 mark this year while averaging 11.5 kills per set, 10.7 assists per set and 15.3 digs per set.
Lehigh leads the all-time series over Holy Cross 43-13, winning the last time out on Oct. 20, 3-0.
