Luchini, Smith claim Patriot League weekly awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Two members of the Lehigh men's soccer team received recognition when the Patriot League released its weekly awards for the past week as sophomore forward Josh Luchini was named Offensive Player of the Week and senior goalkeeper Will Smith was named Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday afternoon.
For Luchini, this is the fourth time he has won the award this season, which ties a single season Patriot League record. He scored the game-winning goal in the 68th minute to beat No. 22 Navy, snapping the Midshipmen's unbeaten streak at 16 straight games. The goal is the 10th of the season for Luchini, becoming just the third Mountain Hawk in the last six years to score at least 10 goals in a season. He also tallied the assist on the insurance goal from Trevor Koski in the 82nd minute to seal the deal. On the season, Luchini has registered 21 points on 10 goals and an assist.
For back-to-back weeks, Smith was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for his efforts in goal against Navy Saturday, where he made four saves and recorded his sixth shutout of the season. It was the first time the Midshipmen have been shut out this season after scoring 24 goals in their 12 games previously. The shutout is Smith's 21st of his career, overtaking sole possession of sixth all-time in Patriot League history. He also extends his league record of Goalkeeper of the Week awards to nine after breaking the record last week.
The Mountain Hawks clinched a spot in the Patriot League Tournament after the victory over Navy and now set their sights on their first Patriot League Regular Season Championship since 2006 with three league games remaining.
With tournament implications on the line, Lehigh takes on archrival Lafayette in The Rivalry Saturday night at 6 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Tickets can be purchased here for $5. The game will also be streamed live on the Patriot League Network.
