
Quinn's 69 paces Lehigh on day one of Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational

APALACHIN, N.Y. – Junior Owen Quinn fired a three under par 69 to lead the Lehigh men's golf team on day one of the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational Sunday on the Links at Hiawatha Landing. Quinn made five birdies and just two bogeys in his round and sits two strokes off the lead held by Zachary Ottman of Binghamton.
Quinn won this event as a freshman in the fall of 2016.
The Mountain Hawks shot 299 as a team and are tied for seventh place in a 16-team field.
Lehigh's second-lowest score on Sunday was turned in by freshman Michael Tanaka, who made a pair of birdies in a round of 75. Tanaka is tied for 31st place.
Junior Ryan Kelly shot 77, going even par on the back nine, and is tied for 47th, while senior Lee Hammerschmidt shot 78 and is tied for 54th place. Senior Eamon Marone is tied for 71st place following an opening round 80.
Host Binghamton had three players break 70 on Sunday as the Bearcats shot 277 as a team to lead the team standings by 12 strokes over Longwood. Lehigh's 299 is part of a three-way tie for seventh with Lafayette and Monmouth.
The Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational concludes Monday with 18 more holes of play. Lehigh will play with Lafayette and Monmouth, teeing off from the first tee beginning at 8:30 a.m.
