
Lehigh finishes third in Patriot League Presidents' Cup standings

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its final Presidents' Cup Standings for the 2017-18 academic year Thursday with Lehigh finishing in third place. The Mountain Hawks' 2017-18 academic year was highlighted by a Patriot League team championship in football and runner-up finishes for men's lacrosse and softball.

Presidents' Cup points are based on a team's performance in the regular season and postseason. Lehigh finished with 134.75 overall points, 14.25 behind second place Bucknell and 3.25 ahead of fourth place Army West Point. Navy captured its fourth straight Presidents' Cup and sixth in the last seven years with 167.5 total points, topping Bucknell by 18.5. The Midshipmen also won the men's and women's trophies.

Last year, Lehigh finished fourth across the board with Patriot League titles in football and softball.

The Mountain Hawks finished third on the women's side with 76 points. The softball team made a strong run in the Patriot League Tournament before falling to Boston U. Lehigh also reached Patriot League semifinals in volleyball, women's tennis and women's lacrosse and qualified for the Patriot League Tournament in women's soccer. Lehigh women's teams also impressed in third place finishes in swimming and diving, and outdoor track and field.

On the men's side, football won its 12th Patriot League championship and totaled 58.75 points to claim fourth place. The men's lacrosse team reached the Patriot League title game for the fourth time in seven seasons, winning two games in the Patriot League Tournament. The Mountain Hawks also qualified for the Patriot League Tournament in men's soccer. In recent years the Mountain Hawks won the men's trophy in 2011-12 and 2012-13.

Three members of the Lehigh track and field teams are still competing beyond the league level as sophomores Ashleigh Crawford, Hannah Patrick and Victor Yegon will compete in the First Round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships, May 24-26 in Tampa, Fla.
