BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With that Patriot League Championship just over two weeks away, the Lehigh women's golf team will have a chance to familiarize itself with the course at the Naval Academy Golf Club when the Mountain Hawks play in the 36-hole Navy Spring Invitational. The threat of inclement weather on Saturday has forced changes to the tournament schedule. The Navy Spring Invitational will now begin Friday with 18 holes beginning at 1:30 p.m. With Saturday expected to be a washout, the final 18 holes will be played Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The Navy Spring Invitational will be Lehigh's fourth spring event and its third stroke play event. Last weekend the Mountain Hawks finished fourth out of eight teams in match play at the FDU Checkmate Challenge in Galloway, N.J. Lehigh defeated Hartford before falling to Fairleigh Dickinson and Dartmouth. Junior Reagan Jahn and sophomore Minuette Laessig both went 1-1-1 over the tournament to lead the Mountain Hawks.
The Naval Academy Golf Club plays 6,085 yards to a par 72. In addition to Lehigh and Navy, the nine team field features Bucknell, Central Connecticut State, Delaware State, Monmouth, Quinnipiac, Towson and Yale.
This will be the second of three trips to Annapolis for the Mountain Hawks, who finished third out of 12 teams in September at Navy's Fall Invitational. Junior Aileen Jeong led Lehigh tying for 10th place with senior Megan Moylan tying for 11th, one stroke behind. Lehigh also played in last year's spring invitational, finishing 12th, led by Laessig and Jahn, who tied for 10th.
Lehigh's team for the Navy Spring Invitational is expected to feature Moylan, Jahn, sophomore Rebecca Markunas and freshman Alexis Browne and Angela Ding.
Following the Navy Spring Invitational, Lehigh will return to the Naval Academy Golf Club for the Patriot League Championship April 21-22.
