Lehigh visits Princeton for Big Al Invitational this weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh men's and women's swimming and diving teams are ready to hit the pool once again after a week off, this time with the Big Al Invitational at Princeton on Friday and Saturday at Denunzio Pool.

In addition to host Princeton, the Mountain Hawks will face off with Duke, Northwestern and Penn State this weekend.

The swimming portion of the event on Friday kicks off at 10 a.m. and then again at 6 p.m., with diving starting at 6:10 p.m.

Saturday will consist of a 10 a.m. swimming session and then diving at 10:30 a.m.

The Mountain Hawk men are coming off of three straight victories, after falling to Boston U. in the opener, while the women are 4-1, rattling off four straight victories, despite losing to Northeastern in the dual meet with BU.

The men are coming off a 161-139 victory over Loyola on Oct. 27, where junior Walker Wilson led the way with three individual victories. Wilson helped the 200 yard medley relay team take first place with a time of 1:33.28. Wilson also took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a 51.15, a 1:51.02 for a 200 backstroke win and a 500 free victory at 4:37.57.

Junior Kevin Fleck won back-to-back events at Loyola in the 1,000 freestyle (9:40.34) and 200 freestyle (1:44.18).

The freshmen have been an excellent addition to the Mountain Hawks this season with Joey Rogers and Glenn Lasco manning the sprint events. Rogers is coming in strong after his victory in the 100 free at 46.94. Lasco missed the Loyola meet, but previously finished with seven first place finishes in an Oct. 20 win over Rider at Jacobs Pool.

Sophomore Tyler Keller will look to replicate his constant success on the boards after sweeping the diving events at Loyola with a score of 258.67 in the one meter and 276.68 in the three meter.

On the women's side, sophomore Ann Foley led the way for the Mountain Hawks against Loyola on Oct. 27, posting two individual victories and a relay win. Lehigh knocked off the Greyhounds 175.5-124.5.

Foley finished first in the 200 free event with a time of 1:53.34, also finishing in the top spot in the 100 free at 52.52. The 400 relay team, along with senior Courtney Ferreira, freshman Grace Rogowski and junior Payton Miles swam to a time of 3:33.59.

The Mountain Hawks showed depth in the victory over Loyola, with sophomore Malia Wolf claiming a victory in the 200 butterfly (2:08.67) and freshman Carly Rutledge victorious in the 500 free (5:07.76).

In diving, senior Rayna Smilowitz took first place in the three meter (217.94), while sophomore Megan Fennell broke the school record for the one-meter dive with first place score of 274.27.

Both Princeton's men's and women's teams are 2-0 to begin the season. Northwestern's men's team is 2-1 open the season while the women are 3-1. Duke's men are 0-2 to open the year; the women are 1-1. Finally, Penn State's men's team has a 1-3 record to open the year, also a 1-3 record on the women's side.
